OUR STORY

Direct Effect Action Network (DEAN) was originally founded to help refugees in a shelter outside of Lviv, Ukraine. DEAN’s founders, David Faeder and Rachel Vaughn, met while volunteering for an organization in Przemsyl, Poland, across the border from Ukraine.

Rachel had traveled into Ukraine to see where else she could help. She came across Irina and Inna, who had set up a shelter at the onset of the Russian war that was providing food and shelter for 90 women and children. After Rachel and David visited together, they pledged to support the shelter for as long as was needed. At first, they self-funded all of the support they could. Soon they realized they would need more help from our community. And so, Direct Effect Action Network was born.

Our mission has since expanded. DEAN also helps by serving meals to the homeless in Los Angeles, and providing mobility for disabled children. We are committed to providing resources to those in need that have been adversely affected by events that are no fault of their own.

With your help, we will continue our work.
